Flachau is a typical alpine village located in a picturesque valley along the Tauern motorway connecting Salzburg with Villach.
Skiing in Flachau commences on sunny slopes cut out of the forest around mountain Griessenkareck ( 1 991 m ). The town lies just above 900 m and during winter usually there is enough snowfalls but everything is under support of 200 snow cannons covering 100% of runs. 
The pistes are rather not very demanding, however good enough for local born champions, Manuela Riegler
and Olympic Winner Hermann Maier. ‘Herminator’ has the piste named after him – ‘Hermann-Maier-Weltcupstrecke’, which every year hosts women FIS World Cup competitions.
Flachau features the illuminated run for skiers, and the slope for snowboarders and night tobogganing.
The slopes near the town are called ‘Snowspace Flachau’. The mountains around Flachau Valley and two other valleys consist the ski resort ‘Drei-Taeler-Skischaukel’ and include the municipalities Flachau, Wagrain, St Jochann and Alpendorf. The resort is a part of ‘Salzburger Sportwelt‘, which features about 350 km of downhill runs.
Nearby Tauern features 50 km of trails for cross-country skiing. The picturesque area tempts for snow waking, hiking and some snow fun with tobogganing, Snow-Tubing, Snow-Rafting and snowboarding. On the slopes near Flachauwinkl Snowboarders will find The Absolute Park – one of the largest terrain parks in the Alps.
The ski schools on easy slopes create good atmosphere for family skiing, and everybody will find exciting apre-ski premises, as in the area informal rule demands – sing along and dance until you drop.
